Abstract

The evaluation of self-regulating drippers is essential for optimizing irrigation uniformity and improving water use efficiency. The objective of this study was to analyze the hydraulic performance of four types of self-regulating drippers under different pressure and nominal flow conditions. The experiment was conducted in February 2024 in the Rocafuerte canton, Manabí province, Ecuador. Four dripper models were evaluated at three nominal flow rates (2, 4, and 8 L/h) and four pressure levels, using a completely randomized factorial design (4 × 4), which generated 16 treatments with five replicates. The variables analyzed were the manufacturing coefficient of variation, the uniformity coefficient, and the percentage difference between the nominal flow rate and the average flow rate, in accordance with ISO 9261:2004. The results revealed differences in manufacturing quality and hydraulic performance among the models. Drippers B and D showed better conformity to the nominal flow rate in several treatments, while models A and C exhibited greater deviations, especially under certain pressures. The highest uniformity coefficients were recorded for model B at 4 and 8 L/h, and for model D at 2 L/h. It is concluded that pressure significantly influences the hydraulic performance of the drippers, with differences depending on the model and flow rate, with model B standing out for its greater consistency.
